9 June 2025

During her PharmD program, Alyssa Chan discovered her passion and brought about positive change. Now, she’s looking forward to the next steps in her career. Ahead of convocation, Chan shares a bit about her journey.

What are you most proud of from your time in the program?

I am most proud of successfully implementing a change in dispensary workflow at my hospital rotation site. That change helps pharmacists identify medications that can exacerbate so they can take appropriate action to reduce medication-related harm.

Who encouraged you to keep going when things got tough?

My partner and family were a great support, and I also made so many wonderful friends from my time in pharmacy school who supported me when things got tough.

What did you discover about yourself during your program?

I was able to discover my passion for inpatient care through a summer job with AHS when I worked in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery.

What advice would you give to a student thinking of entering the doctor of pharmacy program?

Being a student is the perfect time to try new things, so be open to experiences. It will help you discover what you don't like and, more importantly, what you're passionate about.

I also encourage students to get to know their instructors outside of classes, because they have a wealth of experience to share and learn from!

What comes next for you?

I will be starting my career as a pharmacist at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø Hospital.
