Our Facility

Concept

The Centre for Prions and Protein Folding Diseases (CPPFD) is housed in the Brain and Aging Research Building (BaRB) at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø; it is a multi-faculty initiative supported by the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, Science, and Agriculture Life and Environmental Sciences. The CPPFD's intramural faculty include zebrafish biologist Dr. Ted Allison, structural biologist Dr. Holger Wille, CWD researchers Judd Aiken and Debbie McKenzie, Alzheimer's disease researcher Dr. Satyabrata Kar, prion biophysicist and neurologist, Dr. Valerie Sim, and the Centre Director, Dr. David Westaway. Affiliated Faculty include cell biologist, Dr. Sue-Ann Mok and physicist Dr. Michael Woodside. The ß÷ßäÉçÇø Prion Research Institute (APRI) has been a significant stakeholder in the CPPFD, being involved in its creation and providing peer-reviewed funds for project-based operating grants.
