Looking ahead: A message from interim dean Esther Kim

As we say farewell to Dr. Tammy Hopper and celebrate in this report so many of our Faculty’s achievements and milestones over the past year of her tenure, I am very pleased to introduce myself to those of you who may not yet know me.

I’m Dr. Esther Kim and I am honoured to begin serving the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine as interim dean April 1, 2025 for a 15-month term. I’m a speech-language pathologist and professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, where I have also been chair since June of 2023. I also served as acting and interim chair of the department from 2021 to 2023. I began my academic journey right here at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø, completing a bachelor of science in psychology before going on to complete a master’s and PhD at the University of Arizona. I returned in 2009 to begin my career in this Faculty.

I’m excited to get to know more of you in the coming year and I look forward to working with staff, students and faculty and our many external partners to build on the many incredible successes initiated by Dr. Hopper during her time as Dean.
