An ensemble of distinguished musicians representing myriad cultures, languages and regions of the world gather in the Aga Khan Garden for an evening of international music.

Beloved singer Shabnam Merali will be joined by an assemblage of Persian, Pakistani, Afghan, Syrian, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Hindi and Sindhi voices and music. Lay down your favourite carpet or blanket, and immerse yourself in a world away from the everyday.

This immersive and enriching evening celebrates the timeless beauty of Sufi and Ghazal music. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Aga Khan Garden, the concert will take audiences on a transcendent journey through the devotional poetry of Rumi, Amir Khusrow, Bulleh Shah and other great mystics.

 At the heart of the evening is Shabnam Merali, a master of Sufi music whose soul-stirring voice has moved audiences around the world for over two decades. She’ll be joined by an ensemble of exceptional musicians, each bringing their own artistry and depth to the performance. Together, they promise not just a concert, but a journey into the heart of Sufi mysticism: a night of poetry, rhythm and melodies that will echo long after the final note fades.

  • Shabnam Merali, Lead Vocalist & International Sufi Singer: A globally celebrated Sufi singer, Shabnam Merali has enchanted audiences in Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, East Africa, and the UAE. She is renowned for her deep connection to spiritual music, breathing life into devotional poetry with her powerful, soul-stirring voice. As a composer and mentor, Shabnam has trained countless musicians and singers, preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Sufi music.
  • Shahid Akhtar Qalandar, Co-Lead Artist (Vocals & Rubab): A distinguished vocalist and master of the Rubab, Shahid Akhtar Qalandar was born and raised in Hunza Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. He brings the region’s rich musical traditions to the global stage, captivating audiences with his soulful voice and deep connection to devotional music. Blending mystical poetry with contemporary influences, he is a vital force in preserving and innovating traditional melodies. His performances create a transcendent musical experience that resonates worldwide. 
  • Mohammed Assani, Sitarist: An internationally acclaimed sitarist and composer, Mohammed Assani fuses Indian classical music with contemporary global influences. His collaborations include performances for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and royalty, solidifying his status as one of the leading contemporary sitarists.

Important to Know

  • There are no refunds. However, if there is a severe weather warning issued by Environment Canada or the Air Quality Index is at high levels, the Garden may cancel the event and then refunds will be issued.
  • This concert is performed outside, so please make sure you are dressed for the weather.
  • Concert seating is on a first come first serve basis; we encourage you to come early to get a good spot. A limited number of chairs will be available for those with limited mobility.
  • Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 6:00 p.m. You can enjoy the Garden until 10 p.m.
  • Additional food can be purchased a la carte at Cafe al Fresco including a selection of delectable fresh-made sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, ice cream and baked goods along with coffee, cold beverages, wine and beer.
