Working for the Centre of Teaching and Learning
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports instructors in creating engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences for students. As the university’s centre of expertise in teaching and learning, CTL provides hands-on programming, expert consultation, and institutional leadership that enhance teaching quality and student success across all disciplines.
Position summary
Beginning in Fall 2025, all ß÷ßäÉçÇø courses will be delivered in Canvas, the university’s new learning management system (LMS). This transition supports the institution’s commitment to student-centered, flexible, and innovative learning environments. Canvas offers a modern, mobile-friendly interface, enhanced accessibility features, and personalized tools that help students stay organized, manage course materials, track progress, and engage meaningfully in their learning.
To support a smooth and confident transition, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is hiring two Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) as part of its wraparound Canvas support strategy. The GTA, Canvas Support, plays a key role in helping students, GTAs across all disciplines, and instructors make the most of Canvas’s student-centered design and features. The GTA will provide peer-to-peer support to students and GTAs, helping them explore Canvas and navigate their courses with confidence. The role also includes providing basic support to instructors, particularly regarding the student view and experience. Complex technical or pedagogical questions will be triaged to CTL’s instructional designers or Information Services and Technology (IST) as appropriate.
The GTA reports to the Associate Director, overseeing Canvas learning opportunities and works closely with CTL’s Canvas instructional team, including instructional designers and a learning technology specialist. This position is one of two coordinated Canvas GTA roles, designed to collaborate closely and provide consistent, responsive support across campus.
This is a 12-hour-per-week, eight-month appointment, beginning in mid-August 2025 and continuing through the Fall and Winter terms. The position is primarily located on the north campus, with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic responsibilities. Additional availability may be requested during peak times, such as the start of term or major campus events. The successful candidate must participate in an onboarding session in mid-August, prior to the start of classes.
