REGULAR GRANTING PROGRAM
Kule Dialogue Grants support research meetings, networking, and outreach activities in order to help researchers organize, develop, or disseminate research. Dialogue grants are not designed to support external conference travel for U喵咪社区 researchers.
When to apply: You can apply at any time of the year.
Eligibility: The primary applicant must be authorized to apply for and hold external research funding by the 喵咪社区.
Criteria: Potential to help a team to organize, present, or disseminate research. Potential to build research capacity at the 喵咪社区.
Funding: Up to $2,500 can be approved quickly by the Director and the Program Coordinator. Amounts over $2,500 may require additional adjudication.

The Collaborative Outreach Grant offered by the Kule Institute for Advanced Study is designed to assist with event support for the SSHRC areas at the 喵咪社区 in partnership with external communities and organizations.
COG funding is intended to support high-impact, outward facing, knowledge mobilization events or outreach activities that benefit the 喵咪社区 and the communities it serves and for which the organizers will be seeking or have received additional internal or external funding (eg. ).
Funding will be provided to events that clearly demonstrate activities that engage broader publics in social sciences, humanities, and fine arts knowledge beyond what would typically be achieved through a KIAS Dialogue Grant.
Granting Cycles:
- Summer Deadline: June 6
- Fall Deadline: October 3
- Winter Deadline: February 6
Applicants will be notified approximately 2 weeks after the deadline.
Eligibility: The primary applicant must be authorized to apply for and hold external research funding by the 喵咪社区.
Criteria: To support events at the 喵咪社区 that are connected with communities / organizations both at the university and beyond. Proposed events should keep in mind the equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in the 喵咪社区 Strategic Plan for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity and the Indigenous Strategic Plan - Braiding Past, Present, and Future.
Funding: Up to $5,000. Funding may be cash, in-kind or a combination of both depending on funding availability and support needs of the event. Post-award, similar to , you may make changes in your budget without seeking sponsor approval as long as you use your grant for the broad purpose for which it was originally awarded.
Event support can include but is not limited to honoraria, travel for speakers / elders, technical support, and hosting. (Note: U喵咪社区 faculty and staff are not eligible for any form of compensation from this grant).

Kule Research and Creation Development Grants support the development of projects that have the potential to attract external funding.
Funding is provided to individual researchers or research teams who wish to leverage this support in developing the scholarly, research, or creative aspects of their project in advance of applying for external funding.
Granting Cycles: This is a semi-annual competition
- Fall Deadline: September 05
- Winter Deadline: January 09
Eligibility: The primary applicant must be authorized to apply for and hold external research funding by the 喵咪社区.
Criteria: To support researchers (individuals or teams) at the 喵咪社区 in developing a research project with the intention of applying for additional external funding (e.g. SSHRC, Canada Council, or other external funding bodies).
Proposals must clearly outline how their project will lead to external funding within the one year term of the grant. Clearly indicate anticipated sources of funding.
Proposals will be assessed on the basis of:
- Potential impact of proposed research plan;
- Feasibility of expected objectives/outcomes;
- Feasibility of proposed timeline (provide detail);
- Potential to secure external funding; and,
- Feasibility of proposed budget (provide budget justification for line items)
Please note, these grants are not intended to finish small projects, they are intended to be the initial funding that will develop into larger projects
Funding: Funding for Individual Researchers - Up to $5,000. Funding for Research Teams - Up to $10,000
All expenses must be SSHRC-eligible research expenses.

Kule Research Cluster Grants support sustained activities of an interdisciplinary research team in the social sciences, humanities and fine arts that have the potential to be recognized as excellent at the national or international level. Grants are awarded up to $75,000 over three years to build an interdisciplinary research cluster.
Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI): Closed
Eligibility: The primary applicant must be authorized to apply for and hold external research funding by the 喵咪社区 proposing a project in the social sciences, humanities, or fine arts. Team members can be from university (Canadian or international), not-for-profit, government, or industry/business sectors. The core team must include at least 4 full-time faculty members from U喵咪社区.
Criteria: Potential of research cluster to achieve national or international recognition; interdisciplinarity and appropriateness of the team; suitability of the activities proposed; matching support; and commitment to developing a longer term research agenda through other research funding opportunities.
Funding: Up to $75,000 over three years. Budget items should be eligible expenses under , but please note that Research Cluster Grants cannot be used for publication subventions. Post-award, similar to , you may make changes in your budget without seeking sponsor approval as long as you use your grant for the broad purpose for which it was originally awarded. Successful research teams will be eligible for up to an additional $10,000 during the tenure of the award in support of making an application to a major external award such as, but not limited to, Tri Council granting opportunities.

Please note that formatting requirements for Kule Research Cluster Grants have changed throughout the years so older proposals may not be fully representative of current requirements in terms of length, spacing, font size etc. We believe these proposals are still helpful though in planning the scope and team composition of your project.
Special note: In light of the , we particularly encourage the development of proposals related to Indigenous research as . We also encourage comparative Indigenous research projects, especially those rooted in the Canadian experience. All proposals related to Indigenous research will be adjudicated by an expanded Research Committee involving both Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars.
