About

For more than 100 years, the ß÷ßäÉçÇø’s Faculty of Law has been at the forefront of legal scholarship in Canada. Consistently ranked among the top five law schools in the country, we maintain a reputation for leading the way in Canadian legal education.

We have fostered generations of thought leaders — graduates who have gone on to change the course of Canadian law through legal practice, policy making and business. Our faculty have shaped jurisprudence and law reform, working in areas as diverse as human rights law, environmental law and health law.

Our faculty is known nationally for its welcoming atmosphere and immersive student experience. With more than 30 clubs and associations available, students aren’t just completing a degree — they’re joining a community.

The Faculty of Law ensures that people are respected, and diverse perspectives and backgrounds are genuinely welcomed. When each person is empowered to thrive, it makes the faculty not just a place of learning, scholarship and service, but also a true and lasting home.

Serving our Students

The U of A Law student experience is like no other. Students have the ability to study and gain hands-on experience in areas that matter most to them. With a wide variety of academic options, co-curricular and extracurricular activities available, our students interact daily with staff, faculty, alumni, the community and one another. Our students have built a culture that empowers and supports each other as they all work towards their goals.

Supporting our Faculty

Our faculty consists of nationally and internationally recognized research leaders, making impactful changes in the world around us. Faculty culture is collaborative, innovative and well-known for excellence in teaching and disseminating knowledge — not only to our students, but to the broader legal community.

Supporting our Staff

Staff in the Faculty of Law are at the heart of the Law Centre. They serve in student-facing and administrative roles that impact every phase of the student life cycle — from recruiting students to alumni relations and beyond.

Partnerships with Alumni, the Legal Community and Donors

Strong relationships with the legal community, alumni and donors are critical to our students’ success. They drive engagement, create opportunities for our students and ensure we can assist the community. These relationships allow us to maintain a strong focus on public education and to provide service to the community that has a real and lasting impact.

Serving our Community

Through the faculty’s experiential learning program, our support of Student Legal Services and our various centres and institutes, we make important contributions to the city of Edmonton and beyond. Providing free legal services and public legal education to those most in need reflects a central tenet of our educational philosophy and plays an important role in teaching students about the value of service and community.

Ongoing efforts to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action include continued support of the Wahkohtowin Law and Governance Lodge, hiring Indigenous faculty, instructors and staff and building an inclusive environment that values Indigenous knowledge, experiences and perspectives.
