Students should note that while these dates are agreed upon for formal, structured recruitment, jobs can be posted, applied for and offered outside of formal recruitment. This is referred to as a ‘self-directed’ job search rather than a recruit.

These dates are updated on a rolling basis as they become available to us.

Appointments with the CSO are available for Law Students and recent Alumni through the U of A’s .

Definitions

• 1L: short-hand, first year law student
• 2L: short-hand, second year law student
• 3L: short-hand, third year law student
• Call day: The designated day for employers to officially call students that they would like to invite to interview or offer a position. Limiting calls to one day allows for students to remain available to receive a call as well as provides equal opportunity for employers to approach students.
• Blackout period: during this period, employers cannot contact students.
• viDesktop portal: the virtual portal that Canadian legal employers use to receive application packages.
• Recruit/Recruitment: a formal period recognized and agreed upon by firms with their jurisdictional law society that provides equal opportunity for legal employers to engage with law students.

Our JD is internationally recognized in the states of Massachusetts and New York where you are automatically eligible to write the Bar upon completion of your JD. Each state has specific requirements for additional supporting documents that must be submitted to register to write the Bar.
