Cell Imaging Facilities

The Cell Imaging Core and Cell Imaging Facility in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry work together to provide researchers with shared access to advanced light and electron microscopy.

Located in the Katz Group Centre (Cell Imaging Core) and the Cross Cancer Institute (Cell Imaging Facility), these two resource labs support imaging for scientists across the research community.

Facilities Overview

The Cell Imaging Core and Cell Imaging Facility both offer training, technical support and consultation for experimental design, sample preparation and image analysis. They operate together as shared resources dedicated to advancing research and innovation. They also collaborate with the Advanced Microscopy Facility in the Faculty of Science to maximize equipment usage and share expertise across disciplines.

Services are provided on a fee-for-use basis, which helps our facilities recover some of the cost of operating. Core funding is supplied by the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, ß÷ßäÉçÇø Health Services, the Department of Oncology and Canada Foundation for Innovation awards to contributing investigators.

Using our facilities

Interested researchers should contact the Cell Imaging Core (cicore@ualberta.ca) or Cell Imaging Facility (xjsun@ualberta.ca) directly. See all contact information »

Novice users will need to book a training session prior to instrument access and use. In-person training sessions will be charged as assisted use. More information on training is found on our Operations and Policies page.
