Host a Conversation Cafe and Inspire the Next Generation of STEM Leaders!

Imagine the moment when a young student suddenly sees themselves as a future scientist, engineer, or innovator, all because of a conversation you helped create. 

WHAT:  

Conversation Cafés (CCs) are mentorship-powered events where curiosity comes alive, confidence grows, and STEM dreams take shape. With just 5 hours of preparation, you can create a welcoming space that changes the way students see STEM, and themselves.

These flexible 60–75 minute sessions connect students with real-world STEM role models through lively discussions and hands-on activities, helping them:

  • See themselves in STEM careers and identities.
  • Discover the real-world impact of science, engineering, and technology.
  • Dream big and feel supported in their journey.

WHO: 

Anyone with a passion for STEM can host a Conversation Cafe!  

We aim to empower educators, community leaders, workplaces, and STEM enthusiasts to create welcoming spaces where students feel seen, heard, and inspired. Cafés can be tailored to your setting, your audience, and your unique story.

We particularly encourage SRP alumni and current or past WISEST volunteers to embrace this opportunity and continue paying it forward.

 

WHERE:  

Your Conversation Café can take place anywhere students gather: schools, clubs, libraries, community centers, workplaces, or even virtually. Our Digital Host Guide provides tips and ideas to help you select the setting.


WHEN: 

Anytime. Whenever you are ready!

We recommend:

  • 4 weeks of lead time for planning and promotion.
  • ~5 hours of preparation to ensure a smooth, engaging experience.

HOW:  

We’ve made it easy! The Conversation Café Digital Guide is packed with resources to set you up for success, including:

  • Step-by-step planning timelines.
  • Activity ideas and discussion prompts.
  • Equity-focused teaching strategies.
  • Outreach templates, posters, and social media graphics.
  • WISEST swag to engage participants

Need WISEST swag (stickers, etc.)?

  • Request mail delivery at least 4 weeks in advance.
  • Arrange for pickup from our office at least 2 weeks prior to your event.
