New this year! DDS and DH alumni are invited to join the annual Curling Bonspiel hosted by the Dental Students’ Association. Whether you’re signing up as part of an alumni team or as an individual to be placed on a team, we’ve got you covered.

No prior curling experience? No problem! A learn-to-curl session will be held before the games. The event will conclude with a delicious meal. It’s a fantastic opportunity for alumni and students to connect in a fun and relaxed environment.

Artificial Intelligence Chatbots for Dental Hygienists: What is ChatGPT and How Do I Use It?

In this two-hour interactive online workshop, participants will explore the use of ChatGPT for various clinical and academic tasks in the field of dental hygiene. The workshop is suitable for all levels - from those who have never used ChatGPT to those who are looking at advanced uses such as research and app development. The workshop features livestreaming demos, small group exercises, and ample time for questions and answers.

Objectives

  • Create an OpenAI account, write an effective prompt, and manage a conversation with ChatGPT
  • Use ChatGPT to perform a variety of tasks related to Dental Hygiene
  • List errors common to ChatGPT and understand why they occur
  • Review how ChatGPT can interface with internet connected devices and other apps
  • Discuss the ethical, legal, and social implications of generative AI in the context of Dental Hygiene

About Jeffrey Franc

Dr. Jeffrey Michael Franc holds specialty training in Primary Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Sport Medicine. He also has a master’s degrees in Disaster Medicine (UPO) and Applied Statistics (RIT). Dr. Franc has over 20 years' experience in computer programming including website development, app development, and mathematical simulation modelling. He is as Six Sigma black-belt and has numerous certifications in Incident Command System and Emergency Operations Center. Dr. Franc is the Research Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø in Canada. He is also a visiting professor in Disaster Medicine at the Universita’ del Piemonte Orientale, in Novara Italy and the chief statistician at the CRIMEDIM - Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid, and Global Health in Italy. He is also the CEO of Stat59, an Artificial Intelligence based statistics software platform and the Editor- in-Chief for Prehospital and Disaster Medicine. He was recently appointed Adjunct Faculty for the Harvard / BIDMC Disaster Medicine Fellowship. His research interests focus primarily on using computer simulation and modelling in Emergency Department Surge Capacity for Disasters. Publications include over 40 peer reviewed articles, including several on the accuracy of ChatGPT for various clinical tasks. He was a member of The Provost’s Taskforce on AI in the Learning Environment at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø.
