ALES Mini-Internship Program
The ALES Mini-Internship Program (AMIP) offers a unique opportunity for students to get first-hand learning experience on careers in agriculture, life, and environmental sciences. Twice a year during the Fall and Winter reading weeks, this program matches students with an industry specific organization for a three-day visit and volunteer work.
Program Benefits
- Gain hands-on experience within animal agriculture, veterinary medicine, agribusiness, plant/crop sciences, government, food production and technology, forestry, and environmental and conservation sciences.

For the 2025/26 academic year, there is one application period in September. Apply by September 21, 2025.

Participant Eligibility
- Must be a current ALES undergraduate student at the ß÷ßäÉçÇø
- There are currently no academic requirements for the Mini-Internship
- Students applying to Animal Science / Animal Health placements must be currently enrolled in, or have previously completed AnSci 101.
Program Overview
Program
The program runs twice a year during reading week. The program dates are:
- Fall Semester: Nov. 12 - 14, 2025
- Winter Semester: Feb. 18 - 20, 2026
Intake Interviews
Successful applicants will be invited for a 30 minute in-person group-style intake interview, scheduled around your availability. You will be asked to indicate your availability for an interview in your application form and your interview time will be communicated to you after the application window closes.
Program Acceptance
Following the intake interview, you will be notified via email confirming the details of your placement.
Waivers
Waivers will be emailed after successful applicants have been notified. The waivers should be completed and submitted by November 5th, 2025 for the Fall 2025 Program.
Program Fees
$50, due only if you are successfully matched with a host. Payments should be completed through the online store on campusBRIDGE. Information on how (and when) to pay will be provided in the program acceptance notification.
Orientation
You must attend one orientation training session (even if you have participated in the program previously) to help you prepare for AMIP. These are one hour in duration and are online. Orientation dates will be listed on the registration/application form when this information is released in September and you will select your preferred orientation session when you apply.
Coverall / Steeled-toed Boots Pick-up
You may need to pick up coveralls and/or steeled-toed boots before the start of the program. Pick-up time and location will be provided in the program acceptance notification.
Program Wrap-up
Participants from both rounds of this year’s AMIP (Fall 2025 and Winter 2026) will be able to attend an in-person event in March 2026 (exact date TBC) to celebrate their achievements, reflect on their experiences and next steps, and to connect with the program’s donors and hosts. More information on this event will be provided once the academic year commences.
