Employer Information About Internship and Work Experience Programs
Co-op and internship programs at the U of A invite employers from all sectors and industries to inquire about potential participation and student recruitment opportunities. All co-op and internship programs at the U of A maintain high standards and regularly evaluate and update processes to ensure the best outcomes for students and employers.
The ALES Mini-Internship Program matches students with a community-based farm or other Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Science organization for a 3-day workplace visit over Reading Week (typically in February of each year).
We are currently recruiting farm sites and other Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Science organizations across ß÷ßäÉçÇø to host students.
As an AMIP Host, you will:
- provide incoming professionals with a chance to see the day-to-day operations in the field,
- contribute to the education and development of the incoming workforce in your field
- create awareness about career opportunities in your field
- dispel the myths and misunderstandings common in your industry
The Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) helps employers createpaid, flexible work experience opportunities for current Masters and PhD students. Employers from all sectors and industries are invited to post GSIP internships throughout the year, providing opportunities for graduate students to strengthen their professional and transferable skills.
The GSIP includes the Sustainability Scholars Program and the Public Service Graduate Internship Program.
Graduate student internships through the GSIP are employer-driven and flexible. Applications are ongoing.
For inquiries, please contact GSIP staff: GSIP@ualberta.caThe International Student Summer Employment Program (ISSEP) accepts applications from employers looking to hire international students and have their positions supplemented through the program. Approved positions will receive a wage subsidy of $7.00/hour to a maximum of $4000/position.
Positions must be located within the greater Edmonton area or in Camrose to be near at least one of the U of A campuses. All applications are reviewed and ranked based on factors including the quality of the work experience and skills developed hourly salary, and duration of position. Applications open in December, and employers are notified of the status of their application(s) in mid-March. Successful applicants will receive further administrative information upon approval.

The Non-Profit Board Internship Program pairs non-profit boards and mentors from the Edmonton community with current U of A students for the academic year.
Participating community organizations will collaborate with the U of A community, benefiting from the fresh insights of current students and the increased public awareness of key issues.
Students receive ongoing non-profit board training and support and will complete a project to support board governance for the organization during the placement.
